Sleman, November 17, 2023 - As the sun rises on the second day of the Inter-Unit Regional Camp of the Regional Scout Council in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, the sprawling activities for participants are divided into various subcamps across the region. One such subcamp, nestled in the majestic Taman Nasional Gunung Merapi, is facilitated by the Leadership of Wanabakti Scouting Unit from Kwarcab Sleman. This collaboration extends to the Leadership of Wanabakti Scouting Unit from Kwarcab Bantul, specifically the Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Yogyakarta.
The day kicks off with participants making their way to Kalikuning Park within the Taman Nasional area. Upon arrival, a captivating opening ceremony is conducted, graced by representatives from Pinsaka Wanabakti Kwarcab Sleman and Kwarcab Bantul. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Mount Merapi, presenters elucidate on the upcoming subcamp activities.
The highlight of the morning is the release of a native wild bird found in the Taman Nasional Gunung Merapi area, the Crested Goshawk, scientifically known as Accipiter trivirgatus. Participants are captivated as the bird soars back into its natural habitat.
Next on the agenda is a three-kilometer trek from Kalikuning Park to Plunyon Kalikuning, winding through the expanse of Taman Nasional. Divided into six groups, each led by guides from Taman Nasional Gunung Merapi, participants receive insights into the flora, fauna, and all things related to the national park. Along the way, participants engage in an environmental initiative, collecting inorganic waste. The group with the most significant waste collection will receive a special prize.
Amidst the journey, precisely at Umbul Wadon and Umbul Lanang, participants are tasked with planting trees indigenous to the Gunung Merapi area. Following the tree-planting activity, participants engage in a sharing session with three speakers from Taman Nasional Gunung Merapi, Balai Perhutanan Sosial dan Kemitraan Lingkungan, and Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Yogyakarta. To add an element of excitement, door prizes are awarded to participants who answer quiz questions posed by the speakers.
The expedition concludes at Plunyon Kalikuning for rest, worship, and lunch. To foster camaraderie among Wanabakti Scouting Units throughout Kwarda Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, a fun games session is conducted, guided by mentors from Satuan Karya Pariwisata Sleman. Among the distinguished guests is Head of Balai Taman Nasional Gunung Merapi, Mr. Muhammad Wahyudi, S.P., M.Sc., who emphasizes the importance of Wanabakti Scouts as environmental stewards.
Reflecting on the day's adventure, participant Diana from Wanabakti Scouting Unit in Gunung Kidul expresses her enthusiasm, "The activities in the Wanabakti subcamp are incredibly enjoyable, providing experiences and knowledge for participants. It's truly exciting!"
The subcamp activities conclude before 3:00 PM, and participants embark on their journey back to the Maincamp at Bumi Perkemahan Taman Tunas Wiguna Babarsari to continue the subsequent activities.
Contributors to the success of the Wanabakti subcamp include Pinsaka Wanabakti Kwarcab Sleman (Taman Nasional Gunung Merapi and Balai Perhutanan Sosial dan Kemitraan Lingkungan Wilayah Jawa), Pinsaka Wanabakti Kwarcab Bantul (Balai Konservadsi Sumber Daya Alam Yogyakarta), Dewan Kerja Cabang Sleman, and Satuan Karya Pariwisata Sleman.
